Ascension Place, located in the former convent of Ascension Church, was founded in 1981 by the Sisters of St. Joseph and was incorporated as a private nonprofit in 1983. In 1990, Ascension Place, Inc. responded to Hennepin County’s need for emergency shelter for the growing population of homeless, women-led families by opening St. Anne’s Place, also located in the former convent of St. Anne’s Church. Over the years, we have continued to respond to changing community needs by adapting and expanding our programs and services. Although we have no religious affiliation or formal relationship with any church, the names of the buildings were kept to honor the parishes’ legacy of charitable service in the community.
